Affirmation

What is ‘affirmation’? Well, according to the dictionary it is a statement or proposition that is declared to be true or the assertion that something exists or is true.

When a person, particularly a person that experienced or is experiencing low self-esteem, the outcome of these statements not only evoke positivity but more importantly, directly combat negative thoughts. I refer to those negative thoughts as a recording that plays in a loop in a person’s head with things such as “You’re not good enough”, “You’re stupid”, “You’re not worthy” and others like these.

As you can imagine, constant negative thoughts can cause various destructive behaviors brought on by the weakening of emotions. That said, I like to think of affirmations as a way to exercise one’s thought muscle; as the repetition of physical exercising being required to build a body muscle, the same is true of affirmations being required to build a mental muscle. And, in time, the ReAffirmation of Affirmations causes a mind-shift … when you think differently, you act & react differently.

Numerous studies have shown the outcome of affirmations, especially self-affirmations helps to reduce stress and positively influence other mental health ailments such as depression. The research goes on to reveal that a stronger sense of self-worth makes one more likely than not to improve overall well-being.
